Notice period and final settlement in Qatar
Qatar notice periods after the 2020 amendment (one or two months), pay for notice not given, and what goes into a worker's final settlement.
Notice period
Article 49, as amended by Decree-Law No. 18 of 2020: after probation, or where the contract has no probation, either side may end the contract without giving reasons, by written notice.
The notice is one month in the first and second years of work, and two months after the second year.
Notice not given
The side that ends the contract without the full notice must pay the other the worker's basic wage for the notice period, or for the part not given.
Probation
Probation may not be longer than six months, and a worker may be put on probation only once with the same employer (Article 39). Ending a contract during probation has its own notice rules in that article.
What goes into the final settlement
At least: the end-of-service gratuity for a worker with a year or more of service (Article 54), cash for unused annual leave (Article 81), any wages not yet paid, and pay for notice the employer did not give.
The employer may deduct what the worker owes from the gratuity (Article 54).
